Optionally allow Guest Codes to be set to last 4 digits of guests phone # from reservation
To facilitate simple integration with other messaging systems add an option that allows us to optionally on a per door / location basis set the guest pin to the last 4 digits of the phone number in the reservation rather than a random number. Then we can use this in SMS reminders etc from eg SmartBnb

Christian MergedA partner would like to use the last 4 digits of a customer's phone number as the PIN code. This could cause duplicate PIN codes which are not allowed in the Connect portal.
"Please consider adding a looser validation mode that would be simpler for folks to understand. In the vacation rental business, we're not dealing with top-secret installations -- door codes are more to keep honest folks honest than anything else. It's much much worse to have somebody fail to get in because they forgot their code and then have to drive three hours or send out a housekeeper to unlock, incurring a bad review on VRBO etc... than to have events not applied "to the correct access person." I'd bet that most VR owners don't even review events once the initial coolness factor wears off unless they're checking up on cleaning staff. Not guests. -

Sorry, but I think you just need a better method for educating and distributing access codes to guests and rather than requesting to weaken the design of the system itself.
I have 17 units with these installed and receive text notifications for several events. I also use these in correlation with our security cameras.
If anything, I wish there were more security options available. -

Communication is sent in advance for these occasions. Can we request that your system allows us to create guest codes that are sometimes the same pin, but used on different days/times within the system?" -

Thomas Barthold MergedRight now, RemoteLock communicates with Airbnb to get the guest's email address. This email address is in the guest's profile, so is the guest's phone number. RemoteLock's clients, should have an option of random number or phone number. That would be a great feature. Guest's more easily remember their phone number.

Thomas Barthold MergedThanks for considering this. My wife found this suggestion on one of the blogs. That means that at least one of your competitors offers this options. From a host perspective, I see our guests all the time standing outside the door while they open their phone messages for the one with the code. This could be avoided with the phone number. Even better, in your message to them say "For your convenience we have set your code to the last four of your phone number."

Chris MergedMaking codes longer will make it more difficult for guest and they already have a hard time now. I agree with allowing the same codes on different locks/different locations. We manage over 150 homes and have about 1/2 of them on these locks. Our addresses are not easily found by guests and two different guests who don't know each other having the same code on homes that are miles apart is not a serious concern.

MielI totally agree with this. When I set my codes manually I used the last four of people's phone numbers, and it was sooo much easier for people to remember the code.

Bill would like the API to be able to pull the phone number from the guest booking info on OwnerRez and use that as the temporary guest code. Here is his reason:
"From a lock management standpoint... when we didn't have phone number we might as well have had keys... we got more phone calls from guests that have forgotten their code... didn't have access to their email or phone to retrieve the code, etc. etc etc... we went to the last 4 of the phone number and calls just about disappeared... The API is working with OwnerRez and we don't want it changed and yes we had 4 digits with our Yale Locks on Bookerville and now on OwnerRez. Please enable the last 4 of the phone number via API." -

When travelers arrive tired and in the dark they have to search there emails ( assuming they remember the name of the sender) who sent them the random code.
It's not easy to capture the last for of the cellphone by lockstate as VRBO does not transmit this information to lock only the travelers email. The problem is with VRBO not sending this code. -

This makes it easy on guests to remember their code and know that they have a unique code that no one else can use. I would also recommend having the option with Airbnb to send out the automated text code at a time frame the hosts wants. Not immediate when the reservation is accepted.

Don IncognoWithout this functionality, I have to go into the app manually and set it to be the last 4 of their phone number. If I'm going into the app to do that then why do I have remoteLock? I may as well add them myself when I'm in the app changing the code. Love the product but this needs to be improved upon.

Michael KeatonThis would be an asset to VRBO and Airbnb guests. They're getting a temporary code, and we frequently have guests who forget the code. Last four digits of phone number would help with that.

EOI wholeheartedly agree this would be a much better option for guests, knowing it's your phone number is one less thing to remember or worry about. A smoother check-in process for remote hosts and guests!
